Failed WWE pushes

Question
QUESTION: I think that the WWE has a done a wonderful job with both
The Miz and Del Rio in making them main event players but has failed with three stars Swagger, Barret and Sheamus, given that both Swagger and Sheamus are former world champions they are now seen has upper mid Carders and Barret is just another guy. Do you see any these three getting main event pushes again and not jobbing has world champions cause the WWE needs more main eventers who can draw and stop banking on Cena to carry the company . And please WWE stop Rey Jr and BIg Show from burying young talents such has Swagger and CM Punk!

ANSWER: How are you doing Darrell?

I do agree that The Miz and Albert Del Rio are being taken care of quite well in their pushes.  As far as Jack Swagger, Wade Barrett and Sheamus, there's a lot that goes into a main event push.  From what I gather, Swagger's fail push was due to the fact that the fans didn't really get behind him either cheering or booing him.  Plus the WWE does focus group studies and it could be the focus group didn't see him as a strong champion or competitor.  With Sheamus and Wade Barrett, my guess is that to be a great main eventer, you have to overcome adversity.  It might be that is what they are doing now, Barrett with Corre, and Sheamus with moving down and back up.

I personally see Sheamus getting another run on top once HHH retires.  Sheamus was given his original push because he's HHH's work out partner.  Once that dies down in the locker room, he'll get his push.  I'm not sure on Wade Barrett yet.  We'll see how he does once his run with Corre goes.  I really doubt Jack Swagger will be a top main-event guy.  I see him as a transitional top guy (on top for a month or two to pass the title, similar to Chris Jericho).

Matches on tv are fairly heavily controlled by road agents.  Road agents get their marching orders from the writers.  Then they put together matches as best as they can to get the point across within the time allotted.  The writers must have some plan or something for Rey and Show...or Swagger and Punk and these lopsided wins are part of the plan.  However, most guys don't call the match very much in the ring anymore, they do what the Road Agent gives them.

I hope this helps answer your question.

QUESTION: Thanks for answering my question. Well it's a shame about Swagger cause he  can really go, but the show will go on and I do see Sheamus on top again and maybe even on Smackdown, Barret time will come but if you stay a mid carder to long then that tells you something ( MVP, Morrison, Kingston)  I feel that  WWE has misused CM Punk also I mean this guy can do it all wrestling, mic skills, storytelling but all his world title reigns where poorly booked, he Jobs to Rey and gets his head shaved his entire stable jobs  to the Big Show and now his new stable have been taking out by Orton. Did Punk do something wrong I know Vince never like Punk cause of his size and ROH background. Do you have any idea why Punk is booked to look so weak? I know he will job to Randy Orton at Mania!

Answer
Good to talk to you again Darrell

Honestly, I couldn't give you a good reason why C.M. Punk is made to look so weak.  I don't watch enough WWE to have seen the whole thing.  If it were me and he was doing the Straight Edge Society under my booking, I'd make him look weak as well, but I'd have a title on him somehow.  Straight Edge Society is a group, and sometimes groups are made to look strong but the individual weak, so it makes the group strong.  Not everybody likes that booking, but it works.

Alot of booking and pushes are worked via crowd reaction and focus group reaction.  There has to be talent of some kind (Hogan couldn't wrestle but could take a beating), natural charisma, talking ability, and be seen as a viable contender or holder of the title.  It actually gets very complicated.  MVP, John Morrison, and Kofi are all talented but have some flaw that stops them from going to the top.  John Morrison is talking, MVP and Kofi are general look.  They just don't look like World Champions.  Same goes with Punk, he just doesn't look like a World Champion for anything longer then transitional.

Sometimes, also a stable or individual is booked to look weak because the crowd has lost interest in them, so they are made to look bad, take them from tv for a while to get the talent out of the crowd's minds, then re-packaged and brought back.  It happens all the time and sometimes, you don't even realize it.

I hope this helps.
