Biggest upset

Question
Hi,

What, in your opinion, is the biggest upset or surprise in WWE history, as in a result of a match. Like Seamus beating John Cena must've been seen as a pretty big upset ?

Answer
Hi Martin.  Thanks for the question.

It's kind of hard to really pick an upset these days, since it seems like anybody can beat anybody at any given time.  I think to a lot of fans Sheamus beating Cena was an upset, but at the same time, the angles leading up to the match made it look like Sheamus could win.

I think one of the biggest upsets was when the Lightning Kid (or 1-2-3 Kid, X-Pac, Syxx, Sean Waltman, or whatever you want to call him) defeated Razor Ramon (Scott Hall) on Monday Night Raw in 1993.  At the time, the Lightning Kid was a relative unknown on the national scene, and was basically a jobber when he first started with the WWF.

It was an upset because Hall was getting a pretty big push at the time, and here you had the Lightning Kid, who couldn't have weighed more than 160 lbs. at the time, beating one of the top stars in the WWF on Monday Night Raw.  Looking at the two of them, there was no way the Lightning Kid was supposed to have any chance of beating Razor Ramon.

Also, back then, you didn't see a whole lot of upsets on TV, as a lot of the shows were still filled with jobber matches.  Today, most of the matches on the shows are more competitive, and not nearly as one sided.

Thanks again for the question.  Let me know if you have anything else.

Have a great day!

Dave
