Smackdown and Raw

Why are the WWE wrestlers divided into two groups in Smackdown and Raw? In other words why are the Raw wrestlers only allowed on Raw and why are the Smackdown wrestlers only allowed on Smackdown?

Hi Shane,

I believe the major reason why McMahon split the rosta in two is he only has to work half of the wrestlers all the time while getting double the income from each house show (either Raw or Smackdown) and each P-P-V through the year.

Of course, IMO, this means we are only given half of the potential in each show and therefore a poorer quality house show/P-P-V as a result. The whole idea is to extract as much money from the public as they can with the rosta that they have.

The only time the full rosta is produced is in main events like Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series.
