The Ultimate Sking Gadget

The Ultimate Sking Gadget

And now for the ultimate in skiing gadgetry and technology.

Skiing Information Built in to Goggles

A lot of recreational skiers these days carry some form of recording device that records, temperature, elevation, downward descent per ski run, total daily runs, total daily descent and a cumulative total descent plus much more data.

Also nearly every recreational skier wears or carries goggles.

Well, Oakley have come out with a combination. The Airwave 1.5. They have built the performance technology into the goggles. Here's the real technological bit - it uses a heads up display read out!!

This is what is measures and the other things it does:

  • Speed. using GPS integration it measures how fast you are moving.
  • Trip Viewer. All the performance stats like maximum speed, total vertical and maximum feet run by run and total for the day.
  • Jump Analytics. Measures and tracks jumps and airtime.
  • Navigation. Record your location and find other points of interest.
  • Buddy Tracking. Locate and track friends - of course they must have an Oakley Airwave 1.5 as well!
  • Music. Bluetooth technology to play music from your smartphone
  • Smartphone connectivity. All the attributes of Bluetooth connectivity connecting with your smartphone.
  • You can even pre load it with maps and ski trails.

Heads Up Display

The heads up display gives widescreen graphics with a perceived view of a 14 inch screen using innovative prism technology.

It features a remote control, GPS, Bluetooth accelerometer, barometer and gyro sensors.

Notwithstanding all that it most importantly features Oakley's sate of the art lenses. In the Airwave these are also interchangeable. The Airwave features the patented Switchlock technology, a quick and hassle-free interchangeable lens system that opens your options to the entire spectrum of Oakley's premium lenses. The goggles come with anti-fog technology and dual ventilation.

Rules of the Road

A word of caution however. If you are on the ski slopes you have to be aware of other skiers around you. Not only that, there are also snow boarders who don't seem to have the same control as skiers (not true I know but that's the perception). If you are skiing along looking at your heads up display then you are not looking where you are going and are in real danger of running into something or someone. This could end in disaster!!

So the rules of the road must surely be when you are skiing look where you are going and save looking at the heads up display for when you are going up on the chair lift.

Are you a gadget skier? Then this is a must get!!
