7th Grader Wants To Jump Serve

Question
Dear Mr. Houser,  (I think I spelled that right pardon me if I missed spelled it.)

I am a 7th grader who playes volleyball and I would like to learn a simple jump serve to get our team in the lead, or to just syphic out our opponents. I would like to play for the county high school and hopefully a collage one day.
Our school has not won a CWVAC tournament ( central west virginia athletics conference) since 1999 and we do not have that many over hand servers ( I am one of those few)

What advice could you give me to help be able to jump serve the ball?

Could you please help me and my team win the CWVAC?

                                   Sincerely and thank you,
                                                Morgan

Answer
Good morning Morgan!

Thank you for visiting www.allexperts.com!  Yes, you did spell my name right.

Jump serving is risky.  I don't advise you doing it at all in a game until you can get 85% of them in the court.  Yes, jump serving can change the game in your favor, but it can also lose a lot points for your team.

I coach 16's.  We're very good.  But some of our best servers don't jump serve.  Two girls serve low floaters that cause the opponents fits!! Several can serve short really well.  Yes, I do have some jump servers on my team!  You can pics of them on the girls' individual webpages at www.coachhouser.com!!  And yes, these jump servers can make a big impact on the game.  But if the girls start missing their jump serves, I require that they stop jump serving until they can practice it more.

Next thing:  I want you to learn a jump serve from someone who KNOWS how to do it.  Find a coach or a high school girl to teach it to you.  Don't DON'T DON'T just make one up.  Sure, if you make one up, you'll be pretty good at it eventually.  But if you'll learn a normal jump serve, one that adults teach, then you'll perfect it MUCH quicker!  Also, if you learn a normal jump serve, then a coach won't have to force you to re-learn one as you get older.

I'm not trying to tell you that you should not jump serve.  But you are hurting your team is you serve 20% of them in the net.  AND you're delaying your own improvement if you just make up a jump serve on your own without receiving help from someone older.

How's that?

Please visit me and my team at www.coachhouser.com.  I think you'll really like the smiling faces!  Also, does your team have a website like my team does?

Later and good luck winning the championship!!!!
