Why Camping Equipment Differs With Different Locations

Camping is a great way to experience nature from close quarters and also to relax at the same time. How well you are able to enjoy your camping experience will depend upon the camping equipment you choose. Select the equipments you need keeping in mind the nature of the camping location and its weather conditions. If you are thinking that your all purpose camping equipment will do the job, then wait a bit. Read on to know why you need to choose carefully the different camping equipments for camping at different locations.

Tent

A very important piece of camping equipment is the tent. You don’t want to get caught in a rainy place with a tent which is not waterproof. And if you are camping at a windy location, then choose a tent that would hold on and won’t blow away in the wind. The factors to keep in mind while selecting a tent as per the location are size, shape and quality. When you are driving to a camping spot as a family outing, an all season family tent would be the best. Those who are planning to go backpacking on a hilly terrain should consider the weight of the tent they are planning to carry. A light weight pop up tent would be an ideal choice in such a situation.

Sleeping Bag

Sleeping bags are of various types but you should select one depending upon the temperature of the location you are planning to camp at. If it is a beach, you may not need a sleeping bag at all. But when you are camping in places where the temperature might fall at night be prepared with a sleeping bag that can withstand sub-zero temperatures. This is especially important when you are camping at high altitudes and mountains.

Backpack

Backpack is another important camping gear which is not often taken into consideration while planning for camping. But if you are going to a cold region, you’ll need to carry a lot of warm clothes, making it necessary for you to choose a bigger backpack. Those who are planning to go on an adventure trip may have to carry a lot of essential things, which may include various types of equipment, food items, and so on. In this case also a bigger backpack would be useful. Some people prefer to hire porters to carry their backpacks. They can get a big backpack for the porter to carry all the essential items for the trip and get a small one to carry small essential items themselves, such as the water bottle, some first aid items, etc.

Footwear

If you are planning to camp on a beach then don’t wear heavy boots with spikes that are suitable for walking on snowy terrain. It would be quite meaningless. For rugged mountain treks comfortable shoes with good grip are essential.

Clothing

As we have mentioned earlier, it’s basically the temperature and terrain of the location you are camping that will decide the camping gear you should select. Camping in the tropics will mean light clothes, preferably of cotton or any other breathable material. If you are going to camp at a place that usually experiences a lot of rainfall then be prepared with waterproof clothes, raincoats and umbrellas. For high altitude camping warm clothes are essential.

Miscellaneous

There’s a variety of protective camping gear that people require while camping at different locations. For instance, snow goggles when camping on snow covered mountainous regions. At jungle camps remember to carry mosquito repellants and nets to keep away insects while you are sleeping. Packed food is another essential item for camping in the wilderness.

Anytime it’s a bad idea to carry a lot of camping equipment that may not be useful for the location where you are planning to camp. So, depending upon the location you are going to visit, take only those items that you’ll need there.
