The Joys of Nature and Ways to Enjoy It

The Great Outdoors is something to behold for all mankind.  We started as a civilization living under the stars, communing with nature, navigating our way through the wilds to promote life and sustain our cultures.  The caveman invented fire so that he could have warmth and cook food.    In the succeeding generations of man, we developed shelters, harvested resources, and expanded our populations.  We made advancements in travel, commerce, and civility.   Our modern society has progressed to lead a life of comfort, utilizing our inventions to simplify our existence with the use of electronic devices and appliances that can cook, communicate, and inform.   But, man has never lost touch with nature.   There are some who still thrive in the wild, living off the land as their ancestors did so many centuries ago.   They build a log cabin in the woods, casting off modern conveniences, and live a life built on hunting, fishing, and solitude.  Others enjoy visiting nature, camping for short periods of time, staying in touch with our roots, and living as man did before the eruption of cities and technological wonders.   Some take longer journeys in a recreational vehicle, attempting to combine the great outdoors with modern lifestyles.

Camping in luxury

It may seem axiomatic that you go camping, and yet bring your home with you in a recreational vehicle.  Unfortunately, that is the extant some are willing to go to experience nature.  They must have some of the modern conveniences of life in order to survive.  They load the motor home with food, fuel, and supplies and head out on the open road.   They select an RV park, a location, and set up for   a week, month, or longer.  In some locations they can plug in the RV to an electrical source, giving them power.  Others are more rustic, requiring an alternative source of needed power.

Roughing it…

There is a certain level of roughing it that you must go through, even in a recreational vehicle.  It is a smaller living space, with fewer amenities than your home.  You have electronic devices, but need to locate an appropriate power source.  If you can plug in at your location, you will have sufficient power.  If not, you need to run your devices and appliances off of battery power. Some devices have cords with direct current adapters that can be plugged into a cigarette lighter, or other DC sockets.  This will draw power directly from the vehicle's battery.  However, this is only sufficient for small devices.

Not So Roughing it…

A better alternative is to use a power inverter.  A power inverter converts direct current form your battery into alternating current which is used by most common household appliances and devices. In some motor homes, the devices and appliances are tied directly into the battery system.  However, if you have any portable devices, like a laptop, phone, or portable cooking device, you need to plug them into an outlet.  Your power inverter provides the outlets with the proper alternating current. You can now live in the lifestyle you are accustomed to, while still maintaining that you have gone camping.
