I Got it Bad, Its my Last Day

As the trout season was ending soon, I knew I was down to my last chance to get out and do some fishing. Now this season was different from most fishing seasons in my region due to the fact that the spring and summer were really hot and dry causing the waters that I normally fish to be too low. I didn’t get in much fishing.

When September came I thought it would bring the rain my rivers needed to hold trout. It rained alright, for almost the whole month and the rivers and streams where way to high and fast for wade fishing; I just couldn’t catch a break.

So here I was down to my last day to do some trout fishing, it seemed like I had to get out. My body was itching or is it craving to go fishing, I know I got it bad, but this will be my last day till next season.

I grabbed my gear with the plan to go up to the upper tributaries of the French river thinking it might not be too bad since it was beginning of the river. When I pulled up to the bridge where I usually start my fishing I couldn’t believe my eyes, there was so much water rushing down the river. I stood on that bridge looking at the river contemplating if there was any chance that it could be waded. After about 20 minutes or so, better judgement told me it was too dangerous.

Now what? I could not think of any other place to go. I decided I may as well go and see if I can find some deer apples since hunting season will be starting soon. I came upon this apple orchard and as I drove into it I see this nice little dammed up stream. At first I thought there wouldn'’t be any trout in it so I picked a bunch of apples and was putting them away when something broke the surface of that little pond.

It didn'’t take me long to get on my gear and start casting my fly rod. I fished this spot for the last few hours of the day.

It was a blast hooking those small native trout. The best method I found was casting a dry fly and dragging it along the surface, they really like that.

So here it was at this little pond that I finished my trout season and got to release all that bottled up feelings, cravings, itchings or what every you want to call them.
