Golf Instructions from Experts to Raise the Level of Your Game

2016/7/19 14:22:55

PG Wodehouse immortalized golf in one way with "The Coming of Gowf" and other stories. The stories are in a humorous vein. Golf, however, is serious business and the business is to score. Professionals reach a stage of excellence after years of practice. Beginners and amateurs are more than happy with a score of 72 considered fair but not worthy of a professional. Maybe someday you will get to play like Tiger Woods with proper training and practice. Learning how to play golf the right way from experts is a good way to improve your game.

Like any other sport golf too has its secrets and techniques. A pro golfer knows all those tricks and techniques. If you can get him to give you lessons you can see a marked improvement in your play. To an onlooker the game seems simple enough. A player has golf club in his hand and strikes the ball by taking a swing at it. It seems simple enough but there are intricacies and technicalities to the game you will know only if you learn from experts. For instance, experts will give golf instructions concerning:

  • How to hit a ball when it has landed on a downslope
  • Expertly hit a lob shot like a pro
  • Putting backspin on the ball
  • Calculating the distance the ball travels after you hit it
  • The technique of hitting the ball as a draw
  • Which golf irons to use for specific shots and why
  • If the ball is lying just below your feet how do you hit it
  • Holding the iron and learning to swing it
  • Breathing techniques
  • Techniques to hit a ball so it will travel farther

Golf is like ballistics in one way in that, like the shooter, a golfer needs to know the wind speed and direction if his shot is to be accurate. This is but one aspect. Golfers need to adapt the right stance when they prepare to take a shot, breathe easy and apply just the right amount of force and direction after factoring in the wind speed and direction as well as the distance. He must also consider whether it is an uphill or downhill shot.

Supposing you have to take a downslope shot then you start by selecting a lofted club. Adjust your stance so that the club strikes the ball when the club face is at the bottom of the swing, not before or just when it is on the upswing. When you shoot your weight must be on your back foot and you must angle your spine to be perpendicular to the ground. When you swing the club it must be a smooth movement with your arms without much movement in your body. How you hold the club decides whether the ball travels straight or, if the club has been angled, whether it takes on a left or right spin which could make the ball travel way off the mark.

Text can teach you only so much. When you set out to learn, it is better to learn from a trainer or, the next best thing, learn from videos prepared by professionals specifically for golf instructions.
