Glass Golf Ball

The PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association [of America]) holds four major golf championships every year, commonly referred to as the “Major Championships,” or the “Majors.” These four annual tournaments are the most prestigious in professional golf.

  • The Masters Tournament
  • The U.S. Open Championship
  • The Open Championship
  • The PGA Championship

A “Grand Slam” in golf is winning all the major championships in the same calendar year. Only one golfer has achieved this honor, Bobby Jones did it in 1930.

A “Career Grand Slam” is winning all four major championships at any time during a career. Only five golfers have achieved a Career Grand Slam; Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Woods and Nicklaus have won each of the four Major championships three times.

This list covers the major championship winners in golf from 1950 through 2011. To see a list of winners from 1860 through 1949, see Major Championship Winners in Golf Part 1.
