5 Rules For A Better Golf Swing

2016/7/19 16:27:13

Learning a perfect golf swing takes practice. Spend some time watching your favorite pro golfers in action. Watch and see how they apply the following tips to their golf swing consistently, and you'll be seeing your own golf swing improve quickly.

1. Ask any pro golfer, and he or she will tell you that the power it takes to get that ball flying does not come from the arms alone. Use your entire body to achieve maximum power. If you are used to fuelling the golf club with your arms, wrist and hands, then you might struggle at first trying to employ the rest of your body. Practice hitting the ball with using your torso and legs. Once you get the hang of swinging the club with your entire body, you will notice that you are sending that ball flying with more consistency and accuracy.

2. Swivel your shoulders perfectly each time you do a backswing. Your right forearm should be parallel to your spine and your left wrist is flat. To ensure you are doing it the right way, your elbows and arms should form a triangle. Make sure you got this effective position pat at the top of your swing - you are guaranteed a perfectly solid hit, and a more accurate one.

Most amateurs fail at this for 2 reasons. First, the correct pivot position is made too late into the back swing because the takeaway is too low to the ground. Secondly, they swing the club too far back in the back swing believing this is the way to gain power on the shot. Here's a few things to help avoid these mistakes. First, try to achieve a 45 degree angle between your left arm and the shaft of the club when setting up. Make sure your hands remain as close to the ground as possible while moving the head of the club up rapidly at the same time. Your left arm is parallel to the ground and the shaft of the club is perpendicular to it. This should be enough to prevent bad posture.

You golf outdoors so try to practice your chip shots there too. If you do feel inclined to practice chipping indoors, using a wooden rod or broken club shaft is best. Practice keeping your left wrist solid as the shaft passes through the impact area of the swing. If your left wrist gives way during the swing, the shaft of the club will hit your left side. Practice chipping often to perfect this and you'll see your chipping improve steadily.

Occasionally even pro golfers get caught sacrificing flex in their back legs in order to gain a little extra distance on a shot. But inconsistencies in swing posture take consistent success out of your golf game. If you need to get a second opinion about your swing posture, try using a full length mirror while you're practicing. Hold your form and analyze it for both setup positions and back swing. Once you know what the correct posture is, using a mirror in this manor will help you critique yourself.
