Hybrid Golf Clubs

Some of my friends that I golf with have been using hybrid golf clubs for a while. After watching how well they performed, I decided it was time for me to purchase one.

Hybrids began appearing in the early 2000's. Their design combined the wood iron and long iron together, creating a club that could go a better distance like the wood and have the swing mechanics of an iron.

Now was the time for me to stop using a couple of my irons and use hybrids. The irons had always been difficult to use due to low trajectory and a very small club face on the club head. The hybrid gave you the feel of an iron, the same swing and performance as an iron and preferred by players with slower swing speed.

I spent some time researching the different hybrid clubs, trying to decide which would be beneficial for me. My first purchase was a TaylorMade hybrid 4. I would use it in the fairway eliminating the guessing game on which iron to use. Now I get in my stance and when I swing the club and hit the ball I have greater distance for my ball to travel.

The ease of using a hybrid eliminates the chore of getting the right iron for the distance you need to go. The game is less stressful and simpler now. I use my driver to tee off, the 4 hybrid for distance in the fairway and an iron to chip onto the green, lastly the putter. How easy is that.

The next hybrid I purchased was a Cobra 5. The two clubs give me: Club #4 - 125 to 150 yards and club #5 - 75 to 100 yards. I am very happy with the results. The game is consistent, I can hit the ball farther and with better accuracy.

Since golf is not a game that is consistent, each hole can be good or bad. Even the hybrids have their tough days (of course it's the player not the club). You can still hit a tree, not get over the creek (I do not use my good balls, have lost too many), or lost in the high brush.

Hybrid golf clubs are a great way to diversify the way you play the course. Even professional players have a hybrid club in their bags when playing a tournament. Golfing has always been a fun and social time for me. Anything that helps to improve my game, possibly get a few pars and I get greater distance is time for a celebration. Golfing will always be a passion for me, I love the game.
