5 Putting Drills To Lower Golf Scores

2016/7/20 10:05:10

Golf can be one of the most frustrating sports in the world. Especially putting in golf. It seems so simple, but yet it still kicks everyone's butts. So in this article you are going to learn five putting drills to dramatically lower your golf scores. Those drills are:

  1. Short Putts
  2. Star Drills
  3. Natalie Gulbis Drill
  4. Distance Control
  5. Ladder Game

Short Putts

Missing short putts are one of the main causes of three putting and adding a ton of strokes to your score and handicap. So this short putts drill is going to help you gain the confidence you need to make short putts consistently.

Here you will need 6 tees, 1 golf ball, and a putter. You set the 6 tees in a circle around the hole on the practice green and the tees should be 3 feet from the hole. You are going to putt the ball from each tee until you make a complete circle.

If you miss at any point you have to start over. You want to make it around 5 times without missing a putt. So that is a minimum of 30 short putts you are going to make. My favorite part is that it simulates real world pressure, especially when you are on the 29th putt and have to make it to complete the game.

Star Drill

You have the greatest chance of making a putt inside of ten feet. But yet, many of us still miss these. So we are going to practice them.

For this drill you will need 12 tees and 3 golf balls. Set three tees on each side of the hole at the following distance: 3, 5, and 7 feet.

Following the same rules from the previous drill, you want to go all the way around making 1 putt from each of the tees. If you miss at any point, you have to start over. Try to work your way up to completing three complete rounds.

Natalie Gulbis Drill

This is a drill that Natalie Gulbis practices. You need three tees and three golf balls. You set the tees at the following distances: 3 feet, 6 feet, 10 feet. Alternatively you can do 3 feet, 5 feet, and 8 feet. You are going to make three putts from the 3 foot tee. Then three putts from the 6 foot tee. Then 3 puts from 10 foot tee. Make all of these consecutively and if you miss at any point you have to start over.

If you follow these drills you will start to see an improvement in your putting and golf scores.
