One of the best golf putting tips I know, is learning to lay long distance putts close to the hole. How many times have you walked off the eighteenth green and said to yourself, if only I had not missed so many puts. I know I do, all too frequently for my liking. But have you ever thought seriously about why you have taken so many putts? A little reflection and analysis will reveal to you exactly why this happens.

If you think about how many long putts you have had to make in a typical round of golf, that will give you a clue. The problem is judging how hard to hit a putt so as to give yourself a holeable next putt. I want to hole my next putt after being a long way off, and I am generally mightily relieved when I hole in two from long range. It does not always happen for me though.

It is much better, in my opinion, if you train your muscles how hard to hit those putts of about twenty yards, so they finish near the cup.

Here is how I have taught myself to hit those putts close every time from long range. Lay a club near to the edge of the green, or you can use the fringe of the green itself, if it is clear cut. Position yourself anywhere between twenty and forty yards from the target. Playing about twelve balls, see how many you can get close to the golf club or fringe of the green without touching either.

This golf putting tip does not require you to think about line, only about distance, and getting the muscles used to hitting the shot as hard as it takes to get close to where you want the golf ball to finish.

If you find this putting drill a bit dull, try and get a friend interested in competing with you, as this will sharpen your concentration, and you will get more out of practicing this way.

This is one of many golf putting tips which has helped me to improve my putting skills.
