Golf Tips – Getting More Distance

2016/7/20 14:29:50

We have all seen the pros on TV and we all wish we could drive that far. We try to emulate their technique but we just can't manage to get that kind of distance. I'm going to highlight some tips that should help you add a few extra yards to the end of your drive.

The first, most important rule to getting more distance on your drives is to make sure you are properly warmed up. Like sprinting, you will not achieve your fastest speeds with cold legs. The same can be said for golf swings. If it is 7am and this is your first shot, there is no chance of you achieving your optimum distance.

Widen your stance. This gives you the extra balance to swing a bit harder at the ball.

Make sure you keep your left foot stationary on the ground during your backswing. This will give you extra "coil".

Remember, the bigger the backswing, the more distance you have to accelerate the club on the way back down. It will, however be alot harder to control the head of the club if it is coming down faster and over further distance so you may find your accuracy is affected.

A technique you can try to learn is to "snap" your wrists at contact of the ball. This can give you an extra whip that can, if used correctly, give you an extra 20 yards or so at the end of your drive. Your timing needs to be precise and your accuracy may also suffer as a result.

Try to time your swing so that the contact with the ball is made when the club is at its peak velocity.

When teeing the ball up, make sure it is elevated and try to make contact with the ball at the point when your swing is ascending into the follow through.
