Golf is a precision club and ball sport in which golfers use many types of clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course using the fewest number of strokes. Golf is defined as playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules. International Golf Federation is responsible for monitoring the golf tournaments and registration of players once they turn 'Pro'. Also, the IGF conducts four major golf treatments on each of major continents, with North and South America grouped as a single Major tournaments.

Golf tournaments are now being covered by the main stream media regularly owing to new found and ever increasing reach of the sport. At the turn of the decade except for the corporate heads and a small team of golfers from around the world, the sport was not considered a mainstream sport. However, with a considerable help from the media and addition of sponsors on board the major golf tournaments, golf has been able to monetize and popularize itself.
