What to look for from your golfing holiday

If you're a fan of golf and have a group of friends you like to hit the greens with on a regular basis, then booking a golfing holiday and getting away from it all for a few days could be the perfect choice for you.

Not only does it mean you can spend a long weekend playing golf all day long, but you also get to relax and spend some time with people you may not get to see on a particularly regular basis. Plus, if the weather is nice you will get to spend plenty of time in the sun - and get a lot of exercise from walking around all the greens and fairways.

But before you book your golfing holiday there are a few things you will need to consider. The first thing is where you want to go. The UK is home to some stunning golf courses, such as St Andrews in Scotland and The Belfry in the West Midlands. These are both internationally-known courses and could be a real treat for golfers who want to challenge themselves and experience some world-class courses.

Alternatively, you could consider a trip abroad. Although this is likely to be more expensive because you will have to pay for flights, you can turn into a fantastic summer holiday and fit in a bit of sightseeing in the local area as well. Spain has some stunning golf courses and you will also get some guaranteed sunshine if you go during the summer months. After all, although the golf courses in Britain are impressive, there is always that worry you will be caught in a rain shower.

Once you have decided whereabouts you want to go, the next thing to consider is accommodation. In some cases there will be a hotel at the golf course and you will be able to stay there for the duration of your holiday, enjoying the fine food and drink on offer.

Alternatively, if you want to try out a few different golf courses in one area, it might be easier to book a local hotel that is in close proximity to them all. You then have more options when it comes to eating out in the evenings.

Finally, make sure you take out golf insurance before your holiday. This is an important purchase at any time, but it is essential when you are going away and the risk of something happening to your golfing equipment increases.
