Why Softball Hitting Drills are Important

Because you're reading this, chances are that you are getting frustrated with your constant softball hitting drills with your coach because you can't really see the point in doing those. After all, softball hitting looks really simple, you just swing the bat and pray that you hit the ball after. There's no rocket science behind that, right?

Yeah, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to be a good softball hitter, but learning the science behind it will surely help you when you're competing on the field. So what really is the point of all these softball batting drills? Let us give you some of the reasons why they are important:

  1. They transform you into a complete player. When you're playing softball, you will get your chance to play as a defensive (when you're pitching, at the bases or in the outfield) or as an offensive (when you're at-bat) player. If you want to be a well-rounded player, you need to do well in both positions. And softball hitting drills prepare you for the offensive part of the game. Learn this skill well while mastering how to throw the ball, and you will be the envy of both your opponents and your teammates.
  2. They help prevent you from getting injured. Hitting the ball isn't just a matter of learning how to swing the bat—you also need the right softball batting techniques. These techniques will show you the proper motion of how to swing the ball so that you will have more power while at the same time keep yourself from getting injured. Beginners will take the power of their swing from their shoulders and arms, but you will learn when you work with a coach that your power actually comes from your hips. It's a little surprising if you don't know it yet, but that's where the beauty of learning the essential techniques lies.
  3. They help you hit the ball more accurately. One of the most frustrating things when you're just learning how to hit a softball is how to hit it almost every time. Of course you cannot expect to be 100% percent accurate with your batting, but you will be able to increase your chances of hitting the ball when you go through softball hitting drills. There are drills that are designed to improve your reaction time as well as learn when no to hit the ball. And once these skills become second nature to you, it is only then that you will be able to see the benefits of going through the pains of undergoing drills.

So you see, softball hitting drills aren't a waste of time, but rather a way of preparing you to become a really competitive player once you go out on the field. When the ball leaves the pitcher's hand, you will have a fraction of a second to react. And how quickly you can react depends a lot on the techniques you know. Plus, you keep yourself from getting injured easily too if you know the proper softball hitting techniques.
