Have You Talked to Your Family About the Top Golf Courses in the US?

Some of the greatest esteemed clubs around to date are America's private golf courses. These clubs limit their entry to members exclusively, and usually have a tiny, selective set of members. The superior three private courses in the nation are grouped below.

Augusta National Golf Club

Augusta National Golf Club has been featured by Golf Digest as the best course in all of the US. Situated in Georgia, it is the host of the well-known PGA Master's Tournament each year. It has been amazing golfers with its traditional Southern charm since 1933. Nervertheless, the course is not without its controversy. The private golf course has nearly 300 members. There is no membership application to the gold course, as inclusion is by invite strictly. Years ago, the club had requirements for all caddies to be black, and did not admit black members until 1990. To date, no women have been invited to be members of Augusta National Golf Club. These issues have motivated a number of individuals to terminate their membership, and even encouraged the International Olympic Committee to look at whether or not golf lives up to all Olympic morals of being a friendly, inclusive game.

Pine Valley Golf Club

Pine Valley Golf Club is listed to be the second-best club in all of the US by Golf Digest. It was originated in 1913 in New Jersey by amateur golfers. This club is also invitation only and will not induct female members, but, ladies are allowed to come with members as guests on Sundays. The course is famous for holes including "Hell's Half-Acre," a bare stretch on the seventh hole which is really complicated.
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club
Third place on Golf Digest's list is Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southhampton on Long Island, New York. The course was founded by US business magnates in the late 1900's. Put on Native American grounds, the course is open to a land debate. The place is also on the US National Register of Historic Places. Shinnecock Hills was one of the earlist courses to allow women to play, having a separate women's course until 1901. Still, it is known as a get together place of the privileged.

Playing Golf at a Private Club

While not all may have the opportunity to be inducted to a private country club, or pay for the membership fees, playing at these courses is the wish of some players. Regardless of their choosiness, or possibly because of it, these courses have found their way to the top of America's golf rankings.
