Fedex Cup Tournament Schedule

Fedex Cup Tournament Schedule

Do you remember the end of the golf season before the FedEx Cup? I was thinking about that this past weekend while watching the first tournament of the FedEx playoff. I don't remember much about the end of the golf season prior to 2007 when the playoff system was introduced. The season ended with no playoff and no excitement. Let's look at the remaining FedEx Cup tournament schedule.

There are 3 remaining tournaments to decide the FedEx cup.

The Deutsche Bank Championship August 30th-Sept 2nd

BMW Championship September 12th-15th

Tour Championship by Coca-cola September 19th-22nd

The Deutsche Bank Championship starts this Thursday and is held a the TPC Boston in Norton, MA. Rory McIlroy looks to defend his title this year after having won both the Barclay's and Deutsche Bank in 2012. This should provide for an interesting tournament after lasts weeks Barclay's Championship, the first round of the FedEx cup. The tournament came down to the last putt to decide a winner. The Deutsche Bank's featured morning group tees off at 8:40am est on Friday with Tiger, Adam Scott (last week's winner), and Phil Mickelson. The afternoon features Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, and Charles Howell III. They tee off at 1:10pm est. The top 75 will move onto the following tournaments.

The final two tournaments of the FedEx cup are the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship by Coca Cola. The BMW Championship is held at Conway Farms GC in Lake Forest, IL. Last year's winner was Rory McIlroy. The Tour Championship is not only the final tournament of the yearr featuring the top 30 players, but it will also crown the FedEx cup champion. The Tour Championship is held at East Lake GC in Atlanta, Ga and the defending champion is Brandt Snedeker.

I think what the PGA has done by creating this playoff is awesome for the fans. The FedEx system is a point system that narrows down the field until there are 30 left in the last weekend of the season. Players earn points in tournaments they play in throughout the year. Tournament winners and doing well majors of course earn you the most points. The playoff starts with the top 130 in the first week at the Barclay's. The Barclay's was a perfect example of the drama caused with a great field of players and a lot of money on the line. It should be fun to watch and see how things end up as the PGA season ends over the next few weeks.
