World Golf Hall Of Fame

I think the best way to start is at the beginning, 1974 Pinehurst, North Carolina with 13 members the first World Golf Hall of Fame is born. This was a local project taken on by Diamondhead Corp. they owned Pinehurst at the time.

The PGA of America was founded in the 1940’s and was to merge into the Pinehurst Hall in the 1980’s. The LPGA Tour Hall of Fame merged with the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1998. Again, change was in the Halls future in 1996 a new Hall was started in St. Augustine, Florida and was finished in 1998.

Every year there is a new group of Hall of Famers that is inducted into the Hall and has their story hung on the wall to be read by all visitors.

The criteria for entry into the Hall of Fame are based on five categories making the inductees some of the greatest golfers or contributors to the advancement of the game of golf.

The PGA Tour Ballot Process

The PGA Tour

• Must be at least 40 years of age

• Must be a member of the PGA Tour for at least ten years

• Needing 10 wins on the PGA Tour and two Majors or Player Championships

Champion Tours

• A member for five years of the Champions Tour

• Needing 20 PGA Tour and or Champions Tour or five Majors

You must obtain at least 65 points from the PGA Tour journalists, historians and golfing dignitaries that make up the body of voters. If a 65 point average is not achieved the next highest point winner will be inducted, with a score no lower than 50.

International Ballot Process

• Men or women must be at least 40 years of age

• Must have a accumulations of 50 points

The voting is exactly like the PGA Tour with all the same requirements and point systems.

LPGA Point System

• Must be active in the LPGA Tour for at least 10 years

• You need 27 points from LPGA tournament victories, with at least on Major Championship, the Varre Trophy and or the Rolex Player of the Year Award

All members that reach this criterion are inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Lifetime Achievement

• This is a category for those that contribute in other ways than playing the game, such as George W.H. Bush inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2011

The Board of Directories chooses the winner of the Lifetime Achievement

Veterans

• This category is for both professional and ameteur that have had a outstanding career that compare to Hall of Famers career and contributions

This category is also elected or awarded by the Board of Directors

Well does this shine some light on the operating and brief history of the world golf hall of fame? The humble beginnings to where the Hall stands today in ST. Augustine, Florida. Most importantly how they determine who enters the Great Hall to have their story told among the greats of the game.
