Get Better At Putting With These Three Drills

Golf

Putting has continued to be one of the toughest parts of the golf game. Countless people have struggled from yips, a lack of confidence on short putts, three putting, and just about any other putting problem you can imagine.

So in this article I am going to give you three drills that will help you on the following:

  1. Short Putts
  2. Distance Control
  3. Consistency

These are the three most important aspects of putting, and if you can increase your skill in these three areas you will start to see improvement in your putting, and you will start to see lower scores on your scorecard and a lower handicap.

You may even start to win more of your Sunday bets.

Drill Number 1 - Short Putts

If you struggle with short putts, like I did, then this is the drill for you. For this drill you will need the following:

  1. 4 Tees
  2. 4 Balls
  3. A Putter

You will set up the four tees three feet from a hole. 3 Feet to the right, left, in front of, and behind the hole. Depending on the time you have to practice and where you want your skill level to go will determine what you do next.

But basically we go around in a circle making a putt from each tee. Then we keep going around for our predetermined number. But the catch is that if you miss one putt, you have start over from round one.

You can go any number of rounds you want, and the great thing about this is that it simulates actual pressure.

Drill Number 2 - Distance Control

For this drill you will need the following:

  1. 3 Tees
  2. 3 Balls
  3. A Putter
  4. An Extra Club

First you want to set up the extra club a putters length behind the hole you are going to putting towards. Then you want to set up the three tees at the following distances, or distances you want to practice from:

  1. 10 Feet
  2. 15 Feet
  3. 20 Feet

You can set them up farther, but they have to be at least 10 feet from the hole. You want to putt each ball towards the hole, trying to get it past the hole, but stop short of the extra club behind the hole.

If you leave it short or hit the extra club, you have to start over.

Drill Number 3 - Consistency

This is one of the most important parts of putting, and golf in general. Is being consistent. For this drill you will need the following:

  1. 2 Tees
  2. Golf Balls
  3. Putter

You want to hold your putter like you are getting ready to putt, and then set the tees on either side of the putter head. Then you want to putt the balls without touching the tees.

This will breed a consistent stroke, and will overall help you be a better putter.
