Marcel Siem, who was once know as golf's 'Mr Angry' managed to keep his cool by securing a three-shot lead at 11 under-par after the third round play.

The German Siem shot a five-under par round of 66 on the Celtic Manor Golf Course, that hosts to the Ryder Cup in October 2010. The Danish former Ryder Cup golfer Thomas Bjorn and Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano were tied for second place after the third round.

Stephen Gallacher, who returned to golf following a serious disease that affects the immune system, managed to beat the course record by carding a round of 63, some two shots lower than the previous course record. Gallacher eagled the 18th to set up a chance of following up his fourth place in the PGA Championship and recent sixth place finish in last week's Madrid Masters. Fellow British golfers Graeme McDowell and Simon Dyson also share fourth place at seven under par.

Siem, the 29-year-old German ranked 294th in the world has only won once - the 2004 Dunhill Championship in South Africa, but has struggled with form since then,.

"I want to be a better golfer and the only way to do it is to keep my temper," Siem told reporters after a second successive flawless card. "I am not so bad now. I just whistle my girlfriend's favourite tune and think about my two little dogs if I feel angry.

"But I've been much better since 2007 when I was trying to win at home in Cologne. I snapped my club in two pieces and when I turned round I saw these kids - I'd scare them. That told me I had to mend my ways."

In contrast, Europe's Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie sits at 14 strokes behind the leader and avoided any interviews by the media following his round of six over par. Montgomerie faced the media last Friday to insist his Ryder Cup captaincy was not threatened by newspaper reports of marital indiscretions.
