Ball 4, runner walks -- can he run for 2nd?

Question
When the pitcher walks a batter, the batter takes 1st base.  Is the ball now dead?  Or can he continue past 1st if the pitcher isn't up on the pitcher plate with the ball?  For that matter, can a runner at 2 or 3 try to steal the next base while the batter is walking?

Answer
The ball is live until time-out is called by the umpire, so the answer is yes, a baserunner may continue on to second after a walk.  Another baserunner may also try to advance anytime the ball is in play, including during a walk.

* Keep in mind that this pertains to high school, college, or professional levels.  Some youth leagues may have specific rules concerning this issue, so I don't want to mislead you.

Hope this helps, Cenla.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.
