-----Question-----
Hi,  let me pick your brain for the correct way to pick the proper bat for your child.  My son is 72 lbs and I think his size is 4ft 7 inches. He plays baseball, and currently was given an Easton 29 inch 21 ounce 2 1/4 barrel diameter and 1.15 BPF bat for a present.

My questions are:
(1) is this bat to heavy and to short for him?
(2) What size bat should he be using?  (Last year he has an 18 oz 31 inch with a smaller diameter, he choked up a minimal amount and seemed to handle it well.)
-----Answer-----
Can you please let me know how old your son is and also what league does he play in?Does he play select or little league. If you could give that info I will be able to give you my opinion. Thanks Willie Ansley

Answer
Well I think it depends on how much money you want to spend on a bat.If you are going to buy him an expensive bat I would go with a -3 bat.If he is in the 7th grade that means he only has 2 years until he may be competing for a spot on the Varsity or freshman team( that is if his school allows freshman to play.)One way to check is to have him hold the bat straight out and hold it for 10 seconds. If he can do that then it is ok.He can always choke up some also.I would think a 29in bat would be fine for him.My son is 11 and maybe about the same size and he swings a 29in big barrel bat.I hope this could be of some help.
