baseball -- where to get the out...

Question
I am looking for opinions for a particular situation.  Runners on 1st and 2nd.  Either 0 outs or 1 out.  Ground ball anwhere in the infield.  Question: Generally go for the out at 3rd?  Or, let the runner advance, and attempt the double play?

Obviously, where the ball is hit matters, and ability of players.  If you could give me numerous situations, I would appreciate it.  Specifically, I recently had two situations: the ball go to the pitcher; the other had the ball hit to the short stop.

Answer
It really depends on the level of play.  At the collegiate level, 9 outof 10 times I'd go for the DP.  The rare times that I would try to get the lead runner would be a ball hit to 3rd close to the bag or perhaps if we were the visitors in the last inning with a tie game.  Then maybe a ball hit well to SS or P too.

Hope that helps,
