what is the proper way and direction to step off a bag and take a lead off?

Hi Pete,

The direction depends on which bag you are on.  While on third, you should l;ead in foul territory.

First step - any way is OK.  Following should be side-stepped with as much balance centered as possible at all times and eyes entirely focused on the pitcher's movement and the ball.

When stealing, move the second you determine that the pitch is going home.

When holding for action off the bat, take a good ( aggressive ) secondary lead and be in full stride by the time tha ball travels a couple of feet off the bat.
