1st Base Interference: Understanding Rules & Outcomes

Question
What is the call if the 1st baseman drops the incoming throw and then collides with the batter/runner, in foul territory, in attempt to regain the ball?  Did the runner interfere with the 1st baseman? Did the 1st baseman obstruct the runner and, if so, what is the result?

I know that the runner cannot interfere with a fielder attempting to field a batted ball, but what about a thrown or dropped ball in other areas of the field?

Answer
hi mark
thanks for the question!

the runner can not interfere with the 1b on a thrown ball, only a batted ball. the 1b has the right to get the ball and make a play on the runner. sometimes 2 players doing what is legal will collide. this is a no call.

hope this helps.
