Pitch Speed

Question
Hi there,

My name is Luke and I'm a freshman in high school. I'm about 5'10 175 and am pushing it in there anywhere from about 82-85. I'm also throwing a knuckelball (which is about 65 mph) and a curveball #about 72-73). I was just wondering, do you have a guess on how fast I'll be throwing by senior year? and also, I've been trying to put my fastball in there about 79, 80 or so, and then just once and a while throwing one as fast as I can to let them know i have it. IS that smart? What would be your philosophy?

Thanks so much,

Luke

Answer
Luke,
I cannot guess what you will be throwing by your senior year, there are too many variables.  I don't think that throwing your fastball slower is a good idea because you are most likely changing your arm speed.  I would recommend learning another pitch so you can maintain a consistent arm speed with different movements to the ball.

Good Luck,
John Priest
