Impact of Field Size Change on Young Baseball Pitchers

Question
My son is 12 and in the 7th grade, he's a pitcher for Middle School, 6,7, & 8 grade. (60-90 field).
He recently tried out for our town league and was placed on a 11-12 year old team pitching/playing on a 46-60 field. How much effect will this have on his play. Been playing on 50-70 and 60-90 field for 2.5 years and about 60 games per year. Play with lead offs and 3rd strike drop rules, but now on 46-60 field these rules are not in place. Same time still playing for middle school, high school rules apply. Will the difference effect his game. Should I let him play in town league at 46-60. He will defiantly be the star. Or is it going to adversely effect his middle school game to much? Thanks

Answer
#1...Most state associations will not allow you to play for a rec team while you are engaged in middle school or high school...This is a national rule, so check to be sure or you may make your school team forfeit any & all games tyou have played in.

#2....If I am the middle school/high school coach I would not allow you to "go backwards" & play on the smaller fields....Find another league or find a select team to play with this summer.

Good luck......
