Identifying the Losing Pitcher in Baseball - Game Scenario

Question
IF TEAM 1 IS LEADING 3 TO 2 IN THE 6 INNING. TEAM 1 MAKES A PITCHING CHANGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INNING WITH 2 MEN ON BASE.THE NEW PITCHER GIVES UP A BASE HIT WHICH SCORES 2 AND TEAM 2 TAKES THE LEAD 4 TO 3 AND ENDS UP WINNING BY THIS SCORE. WHICH PITCHER WOULD GET THE LOST AND PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY. I BELIEVE IT WOULD BE THE SAME FOR ALL BUT JUST IN CASE THIS IS A COLLEGE GAME.

Answer
Frank,

Sorry about the delay in answering - I was away and did not have access to email.

The first pitcher is given the loss in the scenario you described.  They take the loss because they are responsible for the runners on base.  Those runs are charged to him (because he put them on base) and so he gets the loss.

Doesn't matter what level - the game is always scored like this.

Hope this helps!

Brian
