Dead ball

Runner on firstbase. Line drive hits umpire (behind pitchers mound. Does ball become dead and batter awarded
firstbase?

First off I would like to apologize for my tardiness in answering your question. There have been a lot of new issues with my little league and I have been flooded with e-mail and I just must have overlooked yours.

In that situation the ball does become dead, the batter given first base and credited with a single, and the runner moves to second base.
