umpires call on play at home

Question
The catcher on our team was called for interference on the batter in the following situation: player on third steals home, batter does not swing but stands in the batter's box, catcher moves up to catch the throw home and tag runner out (which he did). The umpire calls catcher interference since he kept the batter from being able to swing. The runner was called safe because of interference against the batter. Was this the correct call? And how can you defend against this play if it is correct?

Answer
The umpire definitely made the wrong call. If the batter doesn't swing and makes no attempt to swing then you cannot call interference on the catcher. Your umpire screwed up. The only thing you can do is ask him to consult his partner because he is incorrect. I'm sorry that you had to experience this.
