Hardy cane rod

Question

hardy rod
Hi. I bought this rod in 1987 from an antique shop for about ?0. I'm intersted to know if you know how much it might be worth now? It has a serial number of g7430 on the brass fitting on the butt of the handle. On the other side there looks to be a crest and the words by abpointment (although the writing is very small and feint). It is a three piece and approx 11ft long. Any advice you could give would be great. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Robert,

Is there a model name written on the rod as well?  The crest and "by appointment" signify Hardy's stature as a provider of goods by royal appointment...I believe.

The picture doesn't want to open properly, but it appears the tip section is short.  It is possible this is a 12' rod that has been broken and made to work as a shorter version.  If so, this has a fairly dramatic impact on value.  If this is not the case, I would be surprised to find Hardy made a rod with a short tip.

Not knowing the exact model is a problem.  However, looking at some of the longer Hardy rods for values, with a short tip the rod would be valued around $50-$90 or so.

Thanks,  Joe
