Eligibility for tournament play.

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
My question is: In Little League, if a player (10 years old)is drafted into the Majors division, but refuses to go up, is he still eligible for tournament play??

Thank you for your time,
Rich

ANSWER: Hey Rich,

I'm afraid he is NOT eligible. Sorry.

QUESTION: Dennis,
That doesn't seem to make any sense to me. Because a 10yr. old that may be a bit intimidated playing with 11-12yr. olds, and elects to play in his age group with 9-10yr. olds, he is penalized by NOT being eligible for tournament play??

Can you please cite me that rule in the Little League handbook??

Thanks again,
Rich

ANSWER: Hey Rich,

I think I misunderstood your question. You must have a small little league program... I never heard of kid forced to move to a higher division. Is this what you are saying happened. please explain..

QUESTION: I apologize Dennis for not being very clear. We have a 10 year old boy that was drafted by a Major division team(mostly 11-12 year olds) , but because he was 10, the league had to get permission from the parents in order for him to move up to that division. The boy, and the parents elected for him to stay down in the Minor division (mostly 9-10 year olds). So, my question was, is he still eligible for tournament play with the 9-10 year old all-star team (mostly Minor division kids), even though he declined to go up to the Majors. For sake of argument, he was good enough to go up to Majors.

I hope I was more clear this time.
Thanks again,
Rich

Answer
Hey Rich,

I don't see why he would not be eligible. He is playing with the 9-10 year olds, right? Then why should this even come into question? He has a Minor team that he is playing on right?
You see, I never heard of players being drafted like this.  Why was he even on the "draft list" if he wasn't eligible to move up in the first place?  Sorry, but I don't get it...
Yes he IS eligible if he is playing on a team...
