8y/o 1st base mitt

Question
My son is 8 y/o and has been playing for several years.  This is the first year that coaches are giving them a set position and they told us to get him a 1st base mit. I am getting conflicting advice on what size glove he should get and an even harder time finding who sells them in his size.  He is 4'5" and weighs 65lbs.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Kristine,

Get him the smallest first base mitt available. Too often I see young kids like this with a huge basket on their hand that they cannot control.  Understand that most MLB infielders use smaller gloves than most 12 year olds.  Outfielders can get away with big gloves.  But an 8 year old at 65 cannot handle a 13 inch glove.  Try to find him a youth first base mitt. You may try the webstore www.baseballexp.com.

I buy most all my gear from them.  Great prices and great customer service.

Good luck and have fun
