Leaving the 8 pin, changing angles, not working

Question
QUESTION: I've had the 8 pin blues for awhile.  Even now that I've develped a hook, I'm leaving 8's.

I counted up six 8 pins in two games last night.  I was hooking it and even when I switched to a pin down ball, I was still leaving 8's.

It seemingly doesn't matter what I do.  Slow it down, hook it more, change balls...NOTHING!  Any advice would be nice.

Thanks

ANSWER: Erik,
I am assuming your right handed. While the path of your ball is true to the pocket the ball is rolling out and not pushing pins into the 8. You can shine the ball a little more or smooth it a little to buy some additional skid down the lane. Getting the ball to roll out into the pocket is ideal for carry usually, but the angle that your ball is entering the pocket is to steep. Try to get the ball out a bit more to increase the angle of entry.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thanks for your answering of my question.  I wanted to follow up, because I have tried different angles; Straight up from the 1st arrow all the way to throwing a big looping hook to 1st arrow at the breakpoint and back.  I leave 8's either way.  I thought if it rolls out throwing that far out would most likely leave flat 10's.  Could flare reduction or a change in mass bias help?  I've tried different releases from cupping the wrist to breaking it to changing tilt and rotation.  As for my target, typically I can't hit it quite right the further down lane it is.  I look at my lay down spot on release after picking out my target (which is the breakpoint).  I typically throw it about 16 to 17 mph with the rest being adaptable.  I would say my target is short as I said.

Anyways, I'm frustrated that I throw a great shot and don't get rewarded.

Answer
Erik,
When you play into a certain amount of friction (and most house shots have friction outside of the second arrow), the ball can potentially lose to much to soon. Not knowing anything about your game, a good shot will have enough energy to split the 8 and 9 as it goes off the deck. Your ball is done before that point, seemingly.

A low weight hole can improve continuation, but I'd suggest there should be a surface adjustment/snug your finger holes/grips (when was the last time the grips were checked? changed?) or some other simple adjustment. Don't go through a bunch of hand position adjustments, you're probably hitting the ball and causing it to jerk and quit. Throw your normal shot (which it seems is striking at least some of the time), concentrate on consistent projection (don't overhit, just roll the shot) and follow through.

The frustrating part is throwing good shots on easy conditions usually creates to much of something and leads to the results you speak of.  You seem to be slightly speed dominant, so freshening the surface of your ball might be another option. Thanks for the question. Let me know if you figure it out.
