position transition

Question
Hi, Arthur, I have been playing football for three years.I have only played offensive and defensive line(5-9 190). My coach said that next year he needs me to play a skill position like safety or receiver. What should I do this offeason to make the transition? p.s. I ran a 5.1 40 yard dash, I'm one of the more athletic lineman on my team.

Answer
Hello,

You need to work on agility, footwork, quickness and speed. Working on the ground ladder will help with footwork and quickness. It will also help with some agility. Cone drills will definitely help with agility. Find a hill to run sprints up, or purchase  a parachute to run sprints with. This will build strength and speed. Try to find out quickly exactly what position you will be trying to play so you can target your workouts toward that position.
