College Football Coaching: A Path to the Next Level
Question
I have been coaching for about 5 years in semi pro and high school football. i was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to coach in high school last year and am preparing to begin another year. my ultimate goal is to coach in college. i don't care what level at this point i just want to get in. i will be getting my associates next year and then will move on to get my bachalors somewhere. i work full time because i took me a bit longer to realize what i wanted to do. i am already 30 years old...please tell me it is not too late. do you have any advice on a good way to get onto a college program. i don't care if is as a volunteer, i just want in. any opinions would be greatly apreciated.
thanks.

it is not too late! The good thing is you have and continue to gain experience. With a degree (BA/BS or higher) it will be a bit easier for you to get the job - you make a better candidate as the objective in college athletics is to graduate athletes so having a bachelors is key. I recommend that when you enroll into a 4 year school you do so where they have a football team. Talk to the coaching staff and explain your situation and ask if you could be a walk on Graduate Assistant (GA). This may help you get your break into college football. Also I recommend going to coaching clinics and conferences to learn and to "network". Establishing a broad based network of coaching peers will help you get your foot in the door. Rest assured it is not too late.
