Football Legal Formations: Understanding Line of Scrimmage Rules

Question
Dear Andrew Mullins my name is Ej i am from central california. My question is about high school and college rules about a legal formations.I wanted to ask as long as there are 7 players on the line of scrimmage can a team use a 5 receiver set or a formation set with 5 players on the same side of it? example like 2 receivers on the line and 3 receivers lined up behind them or near them.is this legal?

Answer
Simply put, seven players must be on the line.  Five must be numbered between 50 & 79.  If your two receivers are on the line & your "3 are lined up behind them", then they are not on the line of scrimmage.

A player is on the line of scrimmage "when his head breaks the plane of the nearest players waist" in all levels of football....

Very good question.  Thanks.......
