Zone Blocking

Question
I've been a line coach in the past, but am now our teams WR's coach.  This year and last, we've tried installing a small amount of zone blocking.  Our head coach is dead set on teaching basic zone right, each lineman has the gap to their right.  I think this is fine for a start, but how can I get him to start instituting the double team playside mentality?  Any thoughts on what I can show him or tell him?

Thanks,

Wayne

Answer
Wayne im in total agreement with you on this one. This zone blocking fad has sweep across America.  It seems like coaches feel as if they have to use it because everybody else is.  The problem with only running a zone system some of the time, is that it becomes confusing for the line, and for the back.  My team doesn't use it at all.  We use most often a double team block at the point of attack on most of our run plays.
As far as trying to tell him to run more of a conventional blocking system, I really don't know what to advise you to do.  Good luck, I hope you can find the right way to put it to him.  Coach Noel
