Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Home Team Announcer Taunts Opposing School During Championship Game

Question
We were at a playoff against a school in a very rich area of the county, we are a lower income school who won the state championship the year before much to everyone's amazement, except ours of course. But the announcer for the home team taunted and jeered and played music and catcalls, etc. all during the game. Instead of the crowd (which was small considering it was a playoff)for the home team didn't chant while our offense was on the field, the announcer played music. He totally belittled our team the whole time. Is thsi normal. I have been attending high school games for the last 4 years and I have never seen this happen before.

Answer
Rachel,
No this is not normal and it offends the integrity of the game and violates the basic sportsmanship principles of scholastic sports.  I am appalled that this would happen.  I hope you and other parents as well as your son's school have written complaints to the to the interscholastic governing body.  I have attended, played, coached and officiated high school football for a combined total of nearly 40 years and I have not  witnessed such things as you describe. It is no only not normal, it is not appropriate.
