AHSAA Rules for Helmet Visors: Are Clear Visors Legal?
Question
Are clear helmet visors legal under AHSAA rules?
Answer
Yes. The rule states that a helmet visor must allow 100% transmission of light. They say the reasoning behind this rule is to allow officials to better access concusion situations. To be honest, it more of a pain in the butt for officials than anything else (just like the wrist bands on the elbow, etc.). If you are buying one, be sure you get COMPLETELY clear. Any tent whatsoever is illegal and you will have just wasted $100 or whatever they cost now. One side note, if you are going to use a clear one, make sure you keep it clean. If those things get dirty, they look tented. We were about to make a kid from Pelham take one off last season, but when he wiped it down with a rag, it turned out to be clear. I hope this answers your question.
