NHL Tryout contracts

Question
Ray Emery is going to Chicago Blackhawks training camp on a tryout basis. Is there a "tryout contract" which he signed, for say three weeks, or is he going at his own time and expense hoping to impress either the Hawks or another team into signing him to a minimum of a full years contract? Thank you.

Hello Joe...

This one could go either way!!  He certainly has enough money to risk his time to make the team and earn more...  on the other hand his agent may still want to get him something so he can get a piece of the action too???  

I am not privy to their dealings - so your guess might be as good as mine on this one!
