Goaltending styles

2016/7/16 9:37:13

Question
My question is: What are the different goaltending styles? I've heard something like "butterfly-style" and I was hoping you could tell me what the styles are and what they mean and how a goaltender develops that kind of style. Does it depend on the goaltending coach?

Thank you.

Back in the day there were 2 types of styles: stand-up and floppers (now called butterfly). It was important to be stand-up when I was growing up. Today, I feel there are solely butterfly and there are hybrids of the 2. I believe a combo is best. Always remember this, when you are off your feet you are always out of position. Also, you cover more net when you are on your feet.
