delayed penalty

2016/7/16 9:37:42

Question
According to Olympic and/or NHL rules, if a goal is scored on a delayed penalty, does the penalty still have to be served?

Answer
Beth, thank you for asking.  According to USA Hockey rules that follow all NHL rules, plus, I might add that USA Hockey rules are a little more strict, NHL rules are mainly the foundation.  Having said that, the rule states that if the penalty or penalties to be imposed are minor penalties and a goal is scored on the play by the non-offending team, the first minor penalty shall not be imposed but all other penalties shall be imposed in the normal manner regardless of whether or not a goal is scored. (Rule 409-B)

I hope this helped answer the question and I hope you are enjoying the Olympic games as much as I am.  I look forward to see the women's gold medal game.

Thanks again for writing.
