Question
Hey, i want to play rugby and i found a team to play for in my town.I have to be a bit older before i can join but before i do i want to know which position would be best for me. I've never played a game of Rugby before and i just recently got into it. As of now i play football and i play Defensive end and left tackle. I'm fairly fast, not the fastest but ok. I'm 5'10 and i weight about 195 lbs. So I'm asking you, which position(S) would be best for me to try out?

Answer
hello  Trevor

I suggest learning more about the game yourself. If you can see if you get access to games. There is a website called rugby zone that has a lot of games to view. It does have a cost so ask your parents.

Also I highly suggest the book "Rugby for Dummies" it is a great starter for the game. Read it a few times.

See if you can go along to training even if you can't get to play. If you can't participate ask if you can just watch.

Also use You Tube to look up "rugby skills" and other such key words to see video about rugby technique.

Also be open to the concept that a lot of rugby players change positions 2 or 3 times between your age and their early adulthood.

Talk to the coach as well see what he thinks. I can't very well advise a position even with the information you gave me there is a lot more to it.
