position problem?

2016/7/16 9:56:57

Question
I want to know what position should I play.Im 16 years old and  I'm going to play for under 18's. I'm 74kgs (163pounds I think) and 189cm (6'2) mostly lean. I can bench press my own weight and I'm pretty quick with my speed mostly acceleration.
I have a alright side step but my technique in a tackle needs
a bit more practice. i have a basic undertanding on how to play because I've played for 5 years until I became for athletic.

thank u

Answer
Hello T' I think you need to talk with your coach a lot more. Ask him to give you some advice. He will have seen you play and will have a better idea. At the moment you look like a flanker or a number eight. But if you are really really fast and have good skill you could be a great center or wing.

Look at some of my old answered questions with the title "tackling" for some tips on tackling.

I wish I could be more help but unless I see you play it is hard for me to tell you which position to play.

Which position do you like best for fun? That is really really important. If your coach / team lets you play the position you like best then that is a very good thing.

Keep in mind you may change position 2 or 3 times before you are 21. That is ok it helps your overall rugby skill.  A lot of flankers become hookers or number 8. Jonah Lomu was a #8 before he was a winger.
