ASA 14U DP/FLEX Batting Order

Question
Greetings Blue -

A batting line up is submitted with DP & FLEX declared before the game. DP is batting fifth in the line up.

An inning starts with the top of the line up and goes through nine batter with less that 3 outs. Who is the 10th batter in that inning? Is it DP or is it the lead off batter? my reference would be ASA Rule 4, Section 3, Paragraph B.

Thanks in advance for your assistance,
Joe

Answer
Hi Joe,

Your rule reference simply states that if you you use the DP/Flex option, the Flex must always be listed in the 10th position.

You can list the DP in the batting order anywhere you want, 1-9, since you listed them 5th here, that's where they bat.  Basically you ignore the player listed 10th (Flex) in the batting order since the Flex plays defense only, never bats (unless for the DP, and then in their batting spot) and the batter after the 9th position would be the batter listed in the 1st position. The same as if you were not playing the DP/Flex.  You would not have the DP batting twice in the order.
