Dec. 2 question on infield fly

Question
Dr. Mark, I have learned much from your replies over the years, and I have a question, the guy asking question on infield fly only stated that runner on first. So this would not be an infiled fly unless he did did not write all facts of situation? Such as runner on second also, or bases loaded?

Answer
Hi Jan,

I read the question carefully and I think the OP was careful to not use the word "fly" but "pop" instead.  So you are correct this was not an IF.

All they were looking for was the ruling on what was an intentionally dropped ball (written or unwritten,) as a player let the ball drop and then turned a dp.

So in ASA it is not an IDB and we play on, in most other orgs. it is and is a dead ball. etc.

Plus just as no one is confused an IF is never a dead ball.

Mark
